The opportunity
Over the next decade, an extraordinary amount of wealth will pass from one generation to the next, not just in the estates of the affluent, but in the homes, farms, small businesses, and lifetime savings of everyday families across our communities. Research from the University of Minnesota Extension shows Wisconsin households hold $2.7 trillion in net worth today, with $109.5 billion projected to transfer over the next 10 years. Now imagine the impact of even a small portion of this transfer being set aside for the benefit of our communities. If every person committed to placing 5% in a community foundation endowment, in total, the wealth would create a fund of $940 million and produce $47 million in grants every year across our region alone.
